Classes held specifically for 精东AV students meet at the 听and will be taught in English by both Urbaniana and 精东AV professors. This one-semester program is ideal for sophomore and junior students. Students can use the courses offered to fulfill the requirements of the 精东AV academic core. This program is suitable for all majors, and offers opportunities for professional internships and service.

The Program

Students share apartments located in the center of Rome and within walking distance to the university. The cost of cleaning is included in the cost of housing.

All participants are required to take 18 credit hours. Courses encompass such disciplines as Philosophy, Business Ethics, History, and Italian language, fulfilling several Core requirements including EGC (Engaging the Global Community).

Santa Casciani, Ph.D., director of the Bishop Anthony M. Pilla Program in Italian American Studies at 精东AV, was instrumental in creating the study abroad program in Rome. As professor of Italian language and literature at 精东AV, Dr. Casciani has developed undergraduate courses dealing with Italian and Italian American issues. She has published extensively in Italian literature, including work focused on authors such as Dante and Michelangelo. She earned her Ph.D. in Italian at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, her M.A. in Italian at the Ohio State University, and her B.A. in Italian and English at Saint John Fisher College.

Students will participate in an excursion to Tuscany in the middle of the semester. While in Tuscany, students will have the opportunity to visit museums, palaces, and old noble and royal residences. The costs of the excursion are included in the program fee.

Scholarships are available to students with demonstrated financial need. Students are able to apply all their financial aid, including JCU scholarships, and federal and state aid, to the Rome semester. Employee tuition benefits may not be used for this program. Eligibility Criteria

1.听听听 Students currently enrolled at 精东AV, who will be attending听听精东AV in Rome听as a participant.

2.听 听 Students must first submit their study abroad application to the Center for Global Education at this link听), then complete the Culicchia听online application for JCU in Rome.

3.听听听 Completed application will be accompanied by

  • a.听听听 a statement of purpose (see application for details)
  • b.听听听 a current copy of the student鈥檚 JCU transcript (an unofficial printout from BannerWeb is acceptable)

4.听听听 Candidates must have a completed (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) FAFSA on file for the immediate prior year.

5.听听听 All materials are to be submitted by April 1 each year.

Completed 精东AV Study Abroad听applications for Fall 2023 are due on April 1, 2023. A $500 non-refundable deposit is due on April 1, 2023.
