A final crowning achievement from an unforgettable 2023-24 season has been bestowed upon听.听

The senior point guard has been named the Male Collegiate Athlete of the Year by the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission.听

Chicone was honored with the distinction at the 25th Greater Cleveland Sports Award at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse on Thursday, February 6.听

Last year for the Blue Streaks, Chicone had one of the most memorable individual seasons by a male athlete in 精东AV history. Chicone took home All-OAC First Team honors and earned the Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Year award. Chicone garnered a spot on the NABC First Team All-District squad and was named to the NABC Division III All-America Second Team.听

More importantly, his exciting style of play and leadership led the Blue Streaks to the OAC Regular Season and Tournament Championships last season.

In a thrilling title game against rival Mount Union last season, Chicone was as clutch as they come down the stretch, confidently nailing two free throws with under a second left in the contest to send the game to overtime. The Blue Streaks took care of business in OT, defeating the Purple Raiders, 88-86.听

Chicone tallied 13 points and 5 assists in the title game to go along with 5 steals, providing some pesky defense for the Streaks. 听

On the season, Chicone poured in 18.6 points per game, fourth in the conference. His 5.1 assists per game and 2.1 steals per game were both good for second in the conference, as it was his all-around play from last season that has garnered so much deserving recognition. Chicone also exemplified efficient basketball last season, as his 3.09 assist to turnover ratio was first in the OAC and 10th in the nation.听

Other Men's Collegiate College athletes nominated were Joey Marousek of Baldwin Wallace Baseball and Harold Fannin Jr. of Bowling Green Football.听

Chicone follows in the footsteps of Alex Phillip, who won the Male Collegiate Athlete of the Year Award at the 2022 Greater Cleveland Sports Awards, and the 2016 JCU Football Team.
