精东AV is excited to introduce Summer in The Heights, a premier pre-college summer program designed for students entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year of high school. Running from July 14-18, 2025, this immersive experience offers students the opportunity to explore their academic passions, engage with distinguished faculty, and discover the vibrant neighborhoods surrounding 精东AV, University Heights, and greater Cleveland.

Students will choose from one of six dynamic program offerings, each providing hands-on learning and exposure to real-world applications in their chosen field. Beyond the classroom, students will experience life on a college campus, with the option to stay overnight in JCU鈥檚 residence halls or commute as day participants. The program costs $1,000 for residential participants, which includes housing and meals, and $500 for day participants. Need-based scholarships are available for students who provide verification of eligibility for free or reduced school lunch. The priority application deadline is March 15, 2025.

JCU鈥檚 pre-college programming builds on the success of the Young Writers Workshop, led by听 Philip Metres, Ph.D., Professor in the Department of English and Director of the Peace, Justice, and Human Rights Program. Since 2011, this workshop has helped students hone their creative voices, prepare for college-level writing, and build a supportive community. 鈥淲e saw incredible success with our Young Writers Workshop, led by Dr. Metres, which experienced record enrollment last year,鈥 said Mike Andelbradt, Director of Admission. 鈥淭hat success demonstrated a clear demand for high-quality pre-college experiences, so we expanded our offerings to include new interdisciplinary programs that provide students with hands-on learning in fields that will shape their futures.鈥

Program offerings include:

  • Building Future Business Leaders - Gain hands-on experience in entrepreneurship, leadership, and business fundamentals by developing and pitching a business idea to a panel of investors, all while learning from faculty at JCU鈥檚 Boler College of Business. 听

鈥淪ummer in The Heights allows high school students to experience 精东AV鈥檚 innovative academic environment while gaining valuable insights into their areas of interest,鈥 said Carolyn Noll Sorg, Vice President for Enrollment and Marketing. 鈥淲e created this program to give students an opportunity to challenge themselves academically, connect with faculty and peers, and immerse themselves in the unique JCU and University Heights communities. Our goal is to inspire and prepare students for their college journey and beyond.鈥
