Completed in 1935, Bernet is the oldest, but renovated, residence hall at 精东AV. Bernet Hall is dedicated in the name of John J. Bernet, president of the听听and a major supporter of 精东AV. Mr. Bernet vehemently called for the building of a dormitory instead of a gymnasium to house the 鈥渂oys from Greater Cleveland who will be forced to go home every night, and a few that may enroll from out of town, but will be forced to find their own lodgings.鈥 Thus, came the construction of 精东AV鈥檚 first residence hall.
A Bernet suite is equipped with a full bathroom, shared living room, and two-person bedrooms. The layouts of the rooms vary depending on the number of students, (two, four, or six) living in each suite. Located next to the Boler School of Business in the heart of 精东AV鈥檚 campus, Bernet provides students with a community life all its own that is very different from the other residence halls.

Saint Edmund Campion (1540-1581) was a scholar, priest, hero of the faith and martyr who was hanged by Queen Elizabeth I after he refused to renounce his Catholic faith. Campion Hall was built in 1990 but was not dedicated as 鈥淐ampion Hall鈥 until November 13, 1993. Alumni of 精东AV will remember Campion Hall as 鈥淕nu Hall,鈥 the name borne by the hall until it was officially dedicated. The hall houses more than 300 residents. Campion Hall was named after听听and College, which were established in Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin in 1880. The college was phased out in 1925, while the high school flourished through the late 1960s. This all-male boarding school was closed in 1975. Campion High School boasts 6,500 alumni and the college boasts about 500. Hundreds of these alumni have attended 精东AV. 精东AV has been the recipient of the beneficence of one of the college alumni, F.J. O鈥橬eil. In recognition of the F.J. O鈥橬eil family, Campion Hall is dedicated to Saint Edmund Campion and the institution that bore his name.

Named after Thomas F. Dolan (1891-1972), founder and president of Dobeckmun Company. Mr. Dolan also served as a 精东AV Trustee from 1949-1972 and as a Development Chairman. Dolan, along with Herbert Kennedy and Charles McCahill, were among those who carried out the drive for funds for Dolan Hall, which was completed in 1955. The Jesuit spirit brings to education a quest for God鈥檚 greater glory in the use of this world鈥檚 goods. This is evident in the motto 鈥淭o the Greater Honor and Glory of God鈥 inscribed above the front entrance of Dolan Hall. To the students, the visibility of this motto serves as a constant reminder of the Jesuit tradition of 鈥淢en and Women for Others.鈥澨

Built in 1988, this building is one of the newest residence halls at 精东AV. Hamlin was dedicated on September 20, 1997, in honor of Richard M. Hamlin, a 1949 graduate. In 1995, Mr. Hamlin was named one of the 鈥50 finest graduates鈥 of the Boler School of Business. He attended听听in Wisconsin, served two years in the United States Navy, and then received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from 精东AV in 1949. Mr. Hamlin was appointed as a member of the 精东AV Board of Trustees in 1988 and served on the Board鈥檚 Development and Nominating Committees. He was president and owner of The Richard M. Hamlin Construction Company, purchased the Hamlin Metal Products Company, and co-founded The Brenlin Group. Hamlin Hall, built in response to 精东AV鈥檚 increasing enrollment and the desire of students to live on campus, is the fourth residence hall built since 1977. This enabled JCU to house 66% of its students. The hall is equipped with a full kitchen, TV lounge and various study lounges that are available to all residents.

Millor Hall was closed Summer 2023.听
Originally known as South Hall, Millor Hall was completed in 1981 and dedicated on October 24, 1981. Millor was named after Rev. William J. Millor, S.J., headmaster of residence halls for many years. Millor Hall, along with Sutowski Hall, was created in order to accommodate the influx of students wishing to live on campus in residence halls in the late 1970鈥檚. This residence hall faced the interior of campus, on the quadrangle between Bernet and Pacelli Halls. Millor hall was the sixth student residence constructed and dedicated to Father Millor on June 10, 1982.听
Established in 1964, Murphy Hall is named after Rev. William J. Murphy, S.J. In 1936, he was appointed faculty moderator of athletics. By 1941, his eleventh year at 精东AV, he was moderator of the band, prefect of Bernet Hall, moderator of the Carroll Union, and Dean of Men. In spite of all his duties, he still found time to play the violin. In 1964, Murphy Hall allowed 400 sophomore and junior men to live on campus instead of in homes in University Heights. It included a small chapel, main parlor, recreation and television room, laundry and storage areas for all residents, as well as nine suites for counselors and a chaplain. It was the fourth major addition and the largest to 精东AV since 1957. Murphy Hall brought the total of students residing at 精东AV to just over 1,000. In the fall of 1969, 48 rooms were set-aside for women to live in. This was the first co-ed residence hall.
In the Spring of 2013, Murphy Hall was closed for 15 months to allow for a complete renovation. Re-opened in August 2014, Murphy Hall can house over 300 students in a mixture of regular doubles and singles as well as 3 and 4 person suites with private bathrooms and living areas. The building has laundry, study, and common space on each floor as well as large common lobbies, a full kitchen, and private meeting/study areas throughout.

Built through the efforts of Father McCue and modern language professor Dr. James Peirolo, as well as from donations by the Italian-American community of Cleveland, the hall is named after Eugenio Pacelli, otherwise known as Pope Pius XII. Pope Pius XII was the first pope to visit Cleveland in 1936. Before being named Pacelli, the University had to obtain special permission from Rome to use the Pope鈥檚 family name. Upon being properly named, Pacelli Hall became the first college residence hall to be named after the Pope. Pacelli Hall was the third men鈥檚 residence hall and the second post-World War II addition to the University. Finished in May and dedicated on September 7, 1952, it consisted of 109 rooms, providing occupancy for over 200 male students. Inscribed above the front entrance to the hall are the wise words of Pope Pius XII 鈥淭he Work of Justice is Peace,鈥 inspiring the students who walk through its doors to follow the Jesuit tradition of service and justice.

As 精东AV approached the end of its first hundred years and began looking toward its second century, an increased number of students opting to live on campus became an obvious concern to University administrators. Stable enrollments over the years had been the norm, but an increased enrollment in the early 1970s 鈥 during some years as much as 50 percent 鈥 indicated a shift toward a more residential campus. Large waiting lists for residence hall space led to the construction of Sutowski Hall, which opened in the fall of 1978. Named after prominent Cleveland businessman and benefactor Walter S. Sutowski, this residence hall houses approximately 180 students on its three floors, nestled on the northernmost edge of 精东AV鈥檚 campus. The residence hall鈥檚 close proximity to nearly all campus facilities makes it a popular choice for students each year. Stylistically, the residence hall is one of the few buildings on campus to incorporate a flat-roofed design, rather than the pitched roof design utilized on the majority of campus buildings.
Sutowski Hall houses four sororities along with housing for other upperclass students.

Located directly off-campus on Warrensville Center Rd, the Duplexes offer students the ability to live off-campus while enjoying all the amenities of living on campus. The Duplexes are two or three-bedroom apartments with full kitchens, dining rooms, and living rooms. Each two-story duplex contains two units, with shared laundry facilities in the basement and a shared two-three car garage. Duplexes are fully-equipped with dining room tables and chairs, living room furniture, desks, and beds. Electricity, water and sewer, heat, trash pick-up, lawn care and driveway snow plowing are included. Snow removal is the responsibility of the residents on steps/entrances and path to driveway. Air Conditioning is now present in all Duplex Units. Most units have original wood flooring with varying levels of age, some have carpet, all have tile/linoleum flooring in kitchen areas.
Since each unit has a fully furnished kitchen, students living in the duplex have the option of choosing to have a campus meal plan, a commuter meal plan, or choose not to have a meal plan. Traditionally housing juniors and seniors, the duplex units provide students with the experience of living off campus while still being closely connected to the 精东AV community.

Internet/Wireless
In addition to the University鈥檚 wireless capabilities, which allow you to connect to the internet from anywhere on campus, every residence hall room is equipped with an ethernet port that can be activated upon request through ITS. ***Ethernet port activation is specific to on-campus residence halls. This capability is not available in the houses, duplexes, or apartments***
Laundry
精东AV participates in the All-Included Laundry Program where the cost to wash and dry laundry is included in your room and board charges. Each residence hall is equipped with high-efficiency washers and dryers. This equipment will save hundreds of thousands of gallons of water every year at JCU. In addition to saving water, the machines only require 录 cup of liquid detergent per load, therefore also saving students on detergent costs.听
Please make sure to bring听liquid laundry detergent听to use in the machines. You can bring high-efficiency detergent听or听regular liquid detergent. If you do not choose to bring high-efficiency liquid detergent, please make sure to use听only 录听of the recommended amount of detergent for each load. Otherwise, there will be too many suds and the machine will not finish the cycle.听Do NOT use听the 鈥3-in-1 Laundry Sheets鈥 as they cause the machine to malfunction.
Vending
Coin-operated vending machines are located in each hall. The number of machines and selection of food products depends upon the size of the residence hall and the needs of its occupants. All vending machines are contracted by the University with local firms. If a machine is not functioning properly and needs service, contact your residence hall office. If you lose money in a vending machine, please leave your name and the amount of money in the mailroom. As a matter of courtesy, please place an out-of-order sign on a machine which is not functioning properly.
