As a high school senior, Quinn Sobiezczanski ’19 was searching for a small college with an emphasis on community.
“I knew that I would not have done well at a large university and needed that one-on-one availability with professors along with smaller class sizes,” she said. “I also knew that JCU had awesome connections as well as a high post-graduation employment rate.”
Additionally, JCU would allow Sobiezczanski to continue her softball career in college. As a senior outfielder, she started 38 games, finished second on the team in batting average and recorded 44 hits, 20 runs and 14 RBIs at bat and recorded 50 putouts in the field.
Sobiezczanski credits being a collegiate student athlete for the organization and time management skills she took with her into the workforce.
“Being a student athlete also helped me understand how much of a grind working in sports is,” Sobiezczanski said. “You have to be okay with putting in extra work as well as balancing everything that is on your plate.”
Off the field, Sobiezczanski was a sports leadership major with a minor in business. The curriculum within the sports leadership major at AV allowed her to explore many different avenues and topics within sports.
“During my time as a sports leadership major they stressed how important it was to get exposure to many different avenues in sports,” Sobiezczanski said. “It is nice having been introduced to each one, as jobs in sports are not by the book, rather by experience and exposure.”
As a rising junior, Sobiezczanski spent her summer working as an intern with CYO of Toledo in their athletics department. As a senior, she was an intern for the Toledo Mud Hens, where she was exposed to customer service and was better able to understand the importance of good leadership and management.
As graduation approached, Sobiezczanski was always anxious about her next step, where that might be and what that might look like. Ultimately, her next step would land her with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Today, Sobiezczanski works for the Cavs as an inside sales account executive. In her position, she prospects and calls businesses, groups and consumers to connect with them and help find a fit with the Cleveland Monsters and Cavaliers.
Sobiezczanski has made valuable connections within the organization and loves the way her co-workers and leadership team care about each other and are always striving to help in any way that they can.
“As much as it is overwhelming starting a new job, I felt as if my education prepared me well,” Sobiezczanski said. “I have always been an outgoing person but I think JCU helped me become an even more helpful, confident and understanding individual which has definitely helped me in my job."
Sobiezczanski is using her exposure to customer service at internships, as well as time management and efficiency skills from being a student athlete, to be successful in her role today.
“Now that I am here, I do not worry about the next step,” Sobiezczanski said. “I believe that because of my education, my motivation, my mentors, and my past experiences that I should feel confident about what comes next.”
